Humans think all the plastics in their food and the microplastics flying off their car and truck wheels won't affect them, but if this is what it does to birds, well, it will https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/mar/12/plastic-pollution-leaves-seabirds-chicks-with-brain-damage-similar-to-alzheimers-study-aoe

As carers, we don't need anyone imposing their judgment on us. We welcome those who offer #empathy and tangible support.
Even more so with recent research implicating periodontal disease as a cause of Alzheimers.

Authorities are awaiting necropsy results to determine how the couple’s kelpie mix died. Starvation could have been a cause of death but ofcls are still unsure, Phipps said, noting that dogs do not get sick from hantavirus. Zinna underwent a procedure on Feb 9, which could explain why the dog was in a crate…. The couple’s other 2 dogs were found alive & had been able to go in & out of the house through an open door, authorities said.

Gene Hackman’s cause of death revealed to be heart disease with his Alzheimer’s listed as a contributing factor. .
His wife (and caregiver) Betsy Arakawa, died of hantavirus a week prior. It’s a rare airborne illness spread through rodent feces.
Hackman was alone in the house for a week with his wife’s dead body.
We may never know exactly what happened in the days leading up to her death, but this is an important reminder that caregivers often need care themselves
Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s is more than a full time job, and it’s possible she didn’t get the timely medical care she needed because she was putting his needs before her own
Caregivers deserve to be recognized and supported, and they should always have respite care available
If you know someone providing full time care, reach out to them. Ask them how they’re doing or if you can support them in any way.
Even giving them an hour of rest and recovery can make a world of difference

My grandfather was a doctor & my grandmother was a nurse, so perhaps there was a false sense of security in that knowledge. Bottom line, memory affecting disease can seriously impact survival.
#BREAKING - Causes of death for both #GeneHackman and #BetsyArakawa revealed...
65yo Arakawa likely died of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome on Feb.11th, several days before 95yo Hackman died of cardiac disease & #Alzheimers. The open bottle of pills found near her body were for Thyroid disease, & not associated with her death.
No cause of death has yet been released for the dead dog, and the surviving two dogs have been placed with friends.
This is weird, until you learn Hackman had #Alzheimers.
Authorities revealed actor #GeneHackman died of heart disease & showed severe signs of Alzheimers a full week after his wife died of hantavirus.
Arakawa, 65, was found w/an open prescription bottle & pills scattered on the bathroom counter. Authorities linked her death to #hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.
Hackman, 95, was found in the mudroom. His death was tied to heart disease w/Alzheimer’s disease contributing.
For all who have given care and known the life-altering grief, pain, and uncertainty of loss.
Good friends cannot restore memories stolen by #dementia, but they can help find #happiness, hope and courage.
Did a new Alzheimer's drug keep this patient's brain healthier for longer?
New drugs Leqembi and Kisunla may have a modest benefit, don't cure #Alzheimer's, have a host of side effects (including brain bleeds), are troublesome to use (require IV infusion or injection) and multiple brain scans and cost 10's of thousands to administer.
"I think it helped," says her husband, Ken Bell. "But I'm not sure."
That sort of uncertainty is common when it comes to #Leqembi and #Kisunla…
Both drugs clear the brain of a substance called beta-#amyloid, which forms the sticky plaques associated with #Alzheimers.
@glynmoody These are very exciting findings from #brainhealth & #Alzheimers research!

"This research suggests that metabolic intervention – whether through dietary approaches like ketogenic diets or supplements—might be most effective when started in one’s 40s, well before #cognitive symptoms appear.. From a #publichealth standpoint, these findings could inform new screening guidelines and preventive approaches"

Not only that, it's been mentioned that there are many in DC circles who suspect that the orange turd felon #tRump had exhibited signs of #dementia thus he may in the future actually become a beneficiary of these lifesaving #Alzheimers research.

#Alzheimers research: Key protein identified
A research team at the #UniCologne has identified a specific form of the tau protein that is responsible for mediating the toxicity of harmful protein clumps in human neurons. This could lead to a new target for future treatments of Alzheimer's disease.
