New and Improved #Introduction just for Beige.Party!

Hey there! I’m Petrichord (she/her). Please don’t call me Petri—it makes me think of the biology class I failed in college. I signed up for Mastodon back in 2018 but only recently started using it this past year, and then my instance (octodon.social) announced its shutdown so I've decided to migrate here to make new friends! Better late than never, right?

By day, I’m a marketer from New Jersey. By night, I’m a do-everything-else-to-stop-the-encroaching-feeling-of-doom-er. My distraction of choice is #Acting. I have a BFA in #MusicalTheatre performance, and I spend my free time working professionally and with community theatre companies. I sing, dance, act, choreograph, direct, and design costumes. I also run a shadowcast of The #RockyHorror Picture Show and have been a performer with the cast for over a decade.

Other things I’ll probably post about include #Burlesque, #Cosplay, #VideoGames (especially #Horror, #Mystery, and #RPGs), #TabletopGaming & #DnD (I used to be a DnD and Tabletop Gaming Streamer for a pretty big company though I don't do that anymore), #BoardGames, and #Books.

Fun facts: I’m an award-winning writer, but executive dysfunction usually wins, so long posts are rare victories. I’m #ActuallyAutistic and have #ADHD, which means I’m very socially awkward, so chaos comes naturally.

I love Porgs, glitter, and indie perfumes. Eat the rich. Let’s be friends. 😘

Our first "head to head" board game night in a long time. We played Hive, Agropolis (from buttonshy) and Onitami. I bought Hive, Onitami many, many years ago - hive is the original wooden pieces. We don't play against each other very often. I can't win against her... (sometimes in Hive, I can).

Onitama is a favorite, though we haven't played it in at least 8 years or so. The "shared" moves give an added layer to it!

Oooh, very niche interest, but: Littledog Games is going to be publishing “Dino Trix” in 2025, which will be a Dino themed Tarot deck as well as rules for three of Daniel Kemel’s Tarot games, which I haven’t played but have heard good things about. Tarot decks that are optimized for playing rather than divination are hard to get outside of Europe, so this is a nice opportunity potentially for a general purpose (and cute Sai Beppu art) tarot deck #Boardgames #PlayingCards

I've been trying Castles of Burgundy on BGA a little and it seems okay, but it requires knowing so many fiddly things about the pieces and the scorekeeping is complicated, so I don't know how I feel about ever playing it in person. I can see the appeal though, there's definitely a type of person who would dig it. #boardgames

List of #ttrpg / #boardgames / #wargames related #fediverse servers (largely #mastodon)

I made this list 2 years ago, this is an update for December 2024.
I generally just use it to find interesting new accounts on these servers to follow.

if there are any more relevant servers you know just tell me please.

I think about what the current state, and potential future state, of boardgames are and one thought that has come up a bunch in the last couple of years is:

"have we hit a situation where we are effectively over producing games?" Note, this question isn't "we're printing too many" of each title but "now the box weighs 9kg and has dual/triple mounted boards, custom dice, elaborate meeples, etc. All of this for a euro that should have weighed 3kg and been ~20% cheaper without a printing issue" and is that getting the better of us because of the nature of how production houses are effectively small shops and can only manage so many variables?

I think there are three camps (well, two of which are realistic so lets focus on that); no, this is great and some natural and potentially inevitable flaws are fine because the package is otherwise great. I can also understand the folks who say "hey, I don't need a bling'd out copy, and if that reduces production issues and a little bit of cash in printing, that's fine and I can imagine things in my mind's eye."

What do you say?

(oh, and what triggered this was Black Forest and it's warping of elaborate player boards) https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3382750/warped-player-boards

BoardGameGeekWarped player boards | Black ForestHi, at Essen I saw at literally every table that the player boards were heavily warped. I wonder if this had to do with the exhibition copies/perhaps poor humidity management in the hall, or is it a problem also found in retail copies? On a sidenote, I really commend
