I am looking for an #alternative to MS 365 email. Partner support is required. The data can be in the cloud, but it must be compatible with the desktop client. In addition, the client must be Linux. Which provider can I consider with over 1200 users? Next is to replace Teams and Office and switch to a Linux desktop

The whole thing is planned as a test first. A small introduction should be possible with the solution
Which provider should I contact?

Say “Hello” to DeskMat, and “Goodbye” to your messy Desktop.

Hide your Desktop icons manually, or automatically when specific apps are running or come to the foreground. Perfect for clean streams, screen sharing, and distraction-free work.

Now available for purchase on my website, and soon on the Mac App Store, too!

Can I just say - I WISH every #desktop #environment in existence could configure their addons/applets/widgets/extensions like #Cinnamon ?

After finishing configuration I just export a JSON file, and when I move to new installation, I just import the JSON and have it configured exactly the same.

"Restoring" my Plasma config takes me 2-3 hours. Restoring my Cinnamon config takes 2-3 minutes.

Here's a KDE Plasma 6 power feature you probably had no idea existed.

Hit Meta+T on your keyboard.

You can define tiles on each of your screens.

Now grab a window and hold shift - it will snap to the closest tile!

This way you can arrange windows on your screen(s) in a way that will keep them sharing your screen's area without ever overlapping.

Doing this manually always took so much time and was so fiddly...

You're welcome!

@eri even for a #Laptop or #Tablet I consider the #FrameworkDesktop a total "#WontBuy!" on my end, as it has less #Upgradeability and #Repiarability than a #Lenovo #X230Tablet or #Fairphone #FP3plus, mich less anything I consider "#Desktop" hardware.

  • Seriously, @frameworkcomputer could've chosen so much better options or just done some sort of Mounting, adaptors & I/O shield to mount a #FrameworkLaptop mainboard and expand it's I/O to be on-par with a #MacMini and people would've happily accepted that.

It's really sad when #DIYperks put in more effort than an entire company at designing a Desktop!

My horribly old #desktop #PC is finally starting to die. Currently running a backup (using #zfs send/recv) to my server of one important local dataset.

Now I started looking for new hardware and to my surprise found a "modern" mainboard with a "real" parallel port (internal header, certainly good enough). This really helps with my retro hobby (#C64), years ago I soldered a simple interface cable that allows using a 1541 floppy on the PC, I even ported the #opencbm driver for that from #Linux to #FreeBSD. Without a parallel port, you'd need some complex USB interface instead including a microcontroller and "tons of shit", while the cable for the parallel port basically consists of a few diodes.

Now I wonder one thing: I'd also love to have a #FDC (#floppy drive controller) again. Is there any modern board coming with THAT as well or should I just forget about it?

@bastetfurry @janet_catcus the only thing cooler would be if they did a #transparent version, but I also know why they didn't and instead chose said muted colour pallet: As those are easily sourceable, child-safe (if not medical- or food-grade), and available as recycling plastics. Also said colours don't directly show ABS's yellowing under sunlight that distinctively.

Keeping costs down, compared to the high prices of optically clear, non-discoloured plastic ehich also tends to be more brittle, and also may not be an option due to the way they pulled a "#ThinkPadnium" style metal reinforcement of the chassis, as they clearly worked out a mix of elastic deformation (TPU), lightweight flexing and stiffening is the way to make a machine that is more forgiving in terms of abuse without designing it to be an unwieldy, heavy industrial appliance.

So yeah, I do want to see @frameworkcomputer release the #Framework12 and maybe some compact #Desktop case that is essentially allowing to shove a Framework 12 or #Framework13 mainboard and keyboard in and have a low-footprint unit like the #RaspberryPi #Pi400 & #Pi500 units. Or just some case one can bolt onto #VESA mounts at a screen (similar to a #ThinkStation Tiny / #ThinkCentre Tiny) and use those for #Classrooms.

I hope they have some nice #Stylus slot & lanyard option similar to the #X230Tablet I still daily-drive today.
