Your Autistic Life FR/EN/ES<p>I had an attack of GERD at the end of November last year. </p><p>I saw my PCP on December 16th. He referred me to a gastroenterologist. The appointment was Feb 28th.</p><p>Not fast, but okay.</p><p>A few weeks back, I got a message that the appointment had to be cancelled because the person I was supposed to meet was busy with some shit.</p><p>I was told they'd call me to schedule something in April or May.</p><p>Never got the call.</p><p>I called yesterday and now the lady who took my call tells me they are making the schedule for July.</p><p>For... fucking... July.</p><p>I hope not to have another GERD attack before I can finally have my appointment.</p><p>This is all happening at the "world renowned" Johns Hopkins.</p><p>Every now and then I hear some asshat declare that Canadian health care is shit, because of wait times. She said she could help if I needed help.</p><p>I tried scheduling it myself online, but the system barked at me when I answered truthfully that the doctor ordered tests but that they were not done yet.</p><p>This is Stupid #1. Nobody as ever heard of scheduling an appointment prior to having the text done??????????? Ever???????</p><p>I told the person who said she could help that I needed help. I never got help. This is Stupid #2. </p><p>I got the test done. Today, I got to try to schedule again. At first, the system barked at me again. This time that was because I picked "Other" as a specialty. See, my doctor is a cardiologist and a lipid specialist. I'm really seeing him as a lipid specialist, but that's not in the list. I restarted and this time I picked cardiology. 🥳 This is Stupid #3. </p><p>After that, I picked answers that I hoped would not make the system bark at me again. "What brings you in?" I was looking for "familial hypercholesterolemia," which is the right answer, but it wasn't there. There were a bunch of "familial" thingies, but not what I wanted. I looked for "hypercholesterolemia," but it wasn't there either. :headache: I finally picked "high cholesterol." 🤷 This is Stupid #4. </p><p>My appointment is now scheduled, in April. Your Autistic Life FR/EN/ES<p>Okay, so a few days back the office of my lipid specialist at Johns Hopkins contacts me to schedule labs, and a new appointment. She says that I can schedule my appointment myself.</p><p>So I try. They ask if my appointment needs labs. I answer affirmatively. They ask if my labs have been done yet. I ask negatively. This is true. Then the system borks. I'm going to bet anything that this is because it wants me to have the tests *done* before I schedule the appointment.</p><p>:why: </p><p>Okay, so she had offered help if I cannot book the appointment myself. I tell her that I need help, and then... several days of dead air from her. </p><p>:catthinking: </p><p>Do they realize that:</p><p>1. I have a life.</p><p>2. When I send the ball back into your court, I'm very liable to forget that there is even a ball. Your Autistic Life FR/EN/ES<p>I completed a survey about my recent <a href="https://mast.yourautisticlife.com/tags/ER" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ER</span></a> experience. I let them have it. Don't ask for my opinion if you're not ready to hear about it.</p><p>My time in that ER was not great. The waiting time was terrible. Nobody asked about how I was doing. I was not in a private room.</p><p>Johns Hopkins ER was much better.</p><p>"But they are world-renowned, and we aren't!!!!"</p><p>First, not my problem.</p><p>Second, how do you think they became world-renowned? Probably not by having a shitty ER.</p><p>Ultimately, if I had a choice of hospital, I wouldn't return there. I'd go to Sibley Memorial. I'm sure it is not great. (I do have my complaints against Johns Hopkins.)
