Lyle Solla-Yates<p>Trying to understand traditional <a href="https://cville.online/tags/monacan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>monacan</span></a> <a href="https://cville.online/tags/design" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>design</span></a> , I stumbled on this fascinating online exhibit from <a href="https://cville.online/tags/vatech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vatech</span></a> <a href="https://exhibits.lib.vt.edu/the-land-speaks/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">exhibits.lib.vt.edu/the-land-s</span><span class="invisible">peaks/</span></a></p>
Lyle Solla-Yates<p>Interesting note here on page 61 that <a href="https://cville.online/tags/thomasjefferson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thomasjefferson</span></a> was plagued by <a href="https://cville.online/tags/samplebias" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>samplebias</span></a> because of the way he decided to excavate the <a href="https://cville.online/tags/Monacan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Monacan</span></a> burial mound north of Charlottesville. Because of that, and I suspect some racial bias as well, he thought it was thrown together in "utmost confusion". No, we now know there was a clear order because of more modern methods but he could not see it. <a href="https://cville.online/tags/archeology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>archeology</span></a></p>
Lyle Solla-Yates<p>Reading <a href="https://cville.online/tags/MonacanMillenium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MonacanMillenium</span></a> (the only book I know of about the <a href="https://cville.online/tags/Monacan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Monacan</span></a> people whose territory historically included the <a href="https://cville.online/tags/cville" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cville</span></a> area) there is no mention of <a href="https://cville.online/tags/eugenics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>eugenics</span></a> until page 11. It is a crucial part of understanding government efforts to harm natives in <a href="https://cville.online/tags/virginia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>virginia</span></a> , but also it is unfortunate that the weight of discrimination has become such a part of their story.</p>
JMMontpelier<p>Greenstone projectile point identified from the Overseer&#39;s House site.<br />A small number of <a href="https://historians.social/tags/ProjectilePoints" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ProjectilePoints</span></a> have been recovered this season, (including those crafted of quartz, flint, and greenstone) revealing how much of Montpelier&#39;s <a href="https://historians.social/tags/landscape" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>landscape</span></a> was integral to life in the <a href="https://historians.social/tags/Manahoac" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Manahoac</span></a> and <a href="https://historians.social/tags/Monacan" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Monacan</span></a> nations before <a href="https://historians.social/tags/colonization" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>colonization</span></a>.</p><p><a href="https://historians.social/tags/sschat" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>sschat</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>histodons</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/HistoryTeacher" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HistoryTeacher</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/apgov" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>apgov</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/ushistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ushistory</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/academicchatter" class="u-url mention">@<span>academicchatter</span></a></span> <br /><a href="https://historians.social/tags/pubarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>pubarch</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/scicomm" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scicomm</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/digiarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>digiarch</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/indigarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>indigarch</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/histarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>histarch</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/crmarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crmarch</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/femarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>femarch</span></a></p>
