NadjaSo this is me. I think I moved here from Instagram for a reason that at least some of you will recognise. I wanted to be free from the algorithms and see real people doing real things. I wanted to read about real thoughts and be able to see kindness again. I am tired of being stressed about what you should buy, how you should look and how to succeed. I'm quite happy where I am as long as I get a little bit of rest from the capitalism that surrounds us constantly. I care about gardening and I try to do my bit by volunteering at a community center where we garden together in the city and I am taking care of our own little farm. I'm so happy about what I've seen here so far. A genuine place on social media. Mike<p>I've had a long chat with one of my pals from my <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/canal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>canal</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/volunteering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>volunteering</span></a> days.</p><p>He's firmly of the impression that within 5 years much of the canal system in England & Wales will be closed to navigation and many miles of towpath will no longer be maintained.</p><p>The Canal and River Trust is facing a financial crisis which is beyond the limits of charity fundraising, voluntary efforts and boating licence fee increases.<br>Cuts in the funding from government has made this inevitable.</p><p>There have been massive staffing cuts (not always the correct staff in my opinion) and a huge sell off of land & buildings but all it's done has been to put off the inevitable.</p><p>I personally think that there are partial solutions but unless there are huge continuing central government bungs - nothing can save the canal network as we know it.</p><p>I no longer have faith in the management of <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/CRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CRT</span></a> and feel that too many poor decisions were taken over a long period.<br>Sad</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/CanalandRiverTrust" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CanalandRiverTrust</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/BetterByWater" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BetterByWater</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/canals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>canals</span></a></p>
