Graylynn Nesi ☥<p><a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/Wepwawet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wepwawet</span></a> is not a <a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/wolf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wolf</span></a>. Holy heck in a handbag am I tired of hearing it. Not a wolf, never has been a wolf, never will be a wolf. </p><p>It's true, the greeks called it Lycopolis... because they were Greek and not Egyptian, go figure. The city was actually called Zauty (early Egyptian) | Saiut (late Egyptian through Coptic with some adjustments) and finally Asyut. </p><p>The original name of the city alludes to the idea of Guardianship of the Northern ways, and it is heavily unlikely the Gods Anubis and Wepwawet were represented by different animals (aka they are both the jackals or jackal-adjacent species). </p><p>It continues, based on my 20+ years of research and knowledge, that the sAb animal (jackal animal) which represents both Anubis and Wepwawet most likely ties in to that of C.mesomelas (Silverback / Black-backed Jackal) more than any other species, with a hybrid species potentially making even more sense. </p><p>It is a mystery we may never 100% solve aside from theory, however there is one thing we can say for certain: Wepwawet. is. not. a. wolf. in terms of what you are picturing the modern-day "wolf" to be. </p><p>For <a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/Kemetic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kemetic</span></a> <a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/Pagans" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pagans</span></a> and <a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/Paganism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Paganism</span></a> what does that mean... does it mean you can no longer use wolf imagery in relation to Wepwawet?</p><p>That is not what it means. In fact I myself have a modern-day wolf imagery (one, total, among all my dozens of jackals) for Wepwawet on my <a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/Altar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Altar</span></a>, though He vastly prefers 1) Jackal imagery, 2) standing jackal NOT sitting or lying down, 3) imagery that does NOT have any identification marks pertaining to Anubis.</p><p>That all being said, you may use any imagery that is pleasing between you and Wepwawet Himself. That's the loveliness of <a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/Paganism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Paganism</span></a>, afterall. It's all about you, and your <a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/gods" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gods</span></a>. </p><p>However, to espouse the idea of the 'historical wolf' in terms of Wepwawet continues to be gravely flawed. </p><p><a href="https://pagan.plus/tags/Kemeticism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kemeticism</span></a></p>
