Emil Jacobs - Collectifission<p>Question for macOS enthusiasts: I run a Time Machine backup via my wifi network, so every hour I get a backup. Awesome yes? Well..</p><p>Every time it makes a backup, the MacBook briefly struggles a bit with basic tasks like browsing and playback of video. Somewhat amazing how Apple didn't optimise for this scenario and this happens with an M2 device, but I guess since they quit selling Time Capsules, it's not on their radar anymore.</p><p>Is there a way to tell Time Machine to make a backup every, like, three hours? Have you heard of this Time Machine backup failure in macOS Sequoia that has hit a number of people, including myself? </p><p>It goes like this, a backup fails with the message "Time Machine did not finish backing up because some files were unavailable. Backups will resume when your Mac is unlocked."</p><p>My Mac Studio never sleeps, and there is no screensaver password. The backup failed while I was using it, in fact. There's no "unlocking" to be done...</p><p>I started seeing this upgrading from 15.0 to 15.1.1. Due to the structure of APFS this is nearly instantanous and the space snapshots take initially is tiny. If the file changes, the old state is still available in form of the snapshot in tm, but the new state of the file takes up additional space.<br>And the ghost 👻 of a deleted file is still haunting the filesystem for a while in the snapshot.</p>
