Is the #librarian job market in Canada really brutal right now? I dunno, I'm on the margins of it as a library technician. Was talking this weekend with a friend who lost his academic library job back in the spring, been on EI since and only got one interview (for an on-call pool) in that entire time. Is it just his bad luck?
@carkner @MidniteLibrary even as a tech the market seems pretty limited, unless you’re wanting casual on-call at a public library
@carkner@historians.social@coffeentacos @MidniteLibrary yea I've been in my tech job since 2010 so I really don't have much of a conception of that job market (aside from being on the hiring committee at my org, and people regularly leaving to libraries that can offer a better deal, etc). I did find it pretty rough when I first moved to the west coast and had no contacts, and almost everything seemed to be based on who you knew. couldn't even get interviews for 14 months.
