Personally, I would like to put the spotlight not only on the 6 million people in Germany who voted for a neofascist party, but also on the many liberals who kept telling marginalized people to stop “overreacting” when they, ten years ago, started to point out the danger that party posed. Great job. #AfD
@historleans Hopefully this trend can start reversing if Biden wins in 2024. We only saw these cockroaches really start to come out of the woodwork in 2015/16.
@historleans Not to forget yet more Germans who voted for the openly anti trans pro climate catastrophe party...
@historleans I feel like the danger has been around longer, although it's certainly changing. Relying only on my faulty memory, I think the old Republikaner did well in the European elections around 1987-88, whereby people would say it was only a Denkzettel. And then this party had nothing to offer in 1989/90, and I have no idea what happened after that. 1/2
@historleans The people, and the prejudices, though, they've been around for longer my personal encounter with Germany began in 1983, even if the European context has changed a lot... 2/2
@historleans Cousins to those in the US who told marginalized people: “Don’t be so hysterical. How much damage can Trump do in just 4 years?”
