Any #Jewish #histodons around: what was, traditionally, the predominant language of Romanian Jews? I’ve seen reference to Yiddish, but I wonder if that’s really specific to Transylvania rather than the old Danubian lands—that is, it would seem surprising to me that Ottoman Jews would be predominantly Yiddish-speaking.
I’ve never heard of a Judæo-Romanian language. Were they perhaps Ladino-speaking Sephardim? Or Greek-speaking Romaniotes?
