The only all-African-American female regiment WAC (Women’s Army Corps) stationed overseas in WWII. The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, formed in March 1945, sifted 17 million pieces of mail in 3 months in the UK. @popcornreel This is a great story that I only recently learned (three+ decades into a career teaching HS History). The good news is that I learned about the 6888th while tutoring a student, and the Battalion was on the students review sheet.
