Say hi. This is an example of how human labor will be remembered when all books are digitized and we all work with digital copies only. And maybe, hand on heart, this hand was intentionally raised to greet us from the past.

So everytime you work with a digital copy of a physical old book, remember that someone had helped you accessing the book. And this someone worked with two layers of plastic on his/her hand (zoom in and see the second mini gloves for the fingers), and was very likely underpaid.

For this topic in general, I highly recommend the book by Michelle R. Warren: Holy Digital Grail: A Medieval Book on the Internet (Stanford University Press, 2022).
