The GuardianThe backlash: how slavery research came under fireBy Samira Shackle

@kawulf what is infuriating can i ask? seems from reading the article like a basic clash of two ideological paradigms.

seems the crux of the matter:
"But British celebration of the abolition of slavery in the 1800s has tended to elide the awkward question of who the abolitionists were fighting against, and the point that the wealth and economic power generated by slavery did not disappear when the Abolition Act was passed."

how do we fight against "original sin" (abulafia)?

@kawulf if we say for example the abolitionists were fighting against specific persons now deceased, what is the point in continuing the struggle?

on the other hand, if we say that the struggle was ideological, then shouldnt we be doing critique of ideology alongside or before our history?

@kawulf if the point of the reparations mentioned in the article is to be fair in buying into the modern system of wealth and privilege, doesnt it miss altogether the question of the necessity of wealth and privilege? just for one example
