After I was done, a closer look revealed that there were only two tiny #grandma recording left for April 2019, so I pulled my tired self together and also processed those two. Next up: three recordings from May 2019 and eleven from July. The whole year has 50 recordings left. #genealogy

Today's belated #grandma recording from April 2019 mainly had me telling my latest research results. At one point, she claimed, that I wouldn't do this #genealogy stuff for a lifetime. I replied to her, that I'm not so sure about that.

Also she mentioned, that they had #bees at our home farm, until her grandma got sick and nobody looked at them anymore during winter. She said, she had a newspaper photograph, which showed her grandfather in front of the bees, but she couldn't find it anymore.

- had to do something with expired milk, so I did milk rice with 1.5 liters (in the oven, without constant attention needed) as well as a bag of pudding
- managed to transcribe at least one #grandma recording this morning and research a tiny bit in parallel
- the difficult bug at work turned out to be in an area a lot less frightening, than the one I expected it in

Today's #grandma recording was about Joseph #Gündhart, a lumberjack from #Unterammergau in #Bavaria, who came to Black Forest in search of work before WW II. He fell in love there twice. For the rich farmer parents of the first woman, he wasn't good enough. She never married and lived in a tiny apartment later. The second one, he married. They had children. After her death, he shared a house with his forever unmaried sister-in-law. He planted peach trees and conserved the peaches. #genealogy

Yesterday, I called a town hall because of a story about a pub/inn #grandma had told me. I was looking for a place that was owned by a #Steurenthaler family. The woman told me about privacy rights, but I said I'm only looking for a local history buff. She gave me a number. He knew all inns and their history, but no hit. Still was a pleasant talk. I also managed to do some emails in the morning and some paperwork in the evening (leftovers from weekend).

Today's #grandma recording told the story of a woman, who came from the #Hamburg area to Black Forest during the war (maybe to #Heuweiler). There she married somebody named #Steurenthaler, which also was grandma's maiden name. The man, who used to be grandma's foster kid, introduced the two women to each other. She was a waitress in Hamburg back then. Maybe she is identical to wikitree.com/wiki/Steurenthale, of whom I so far only know a death date and a short clip on YouTube.

The highlight of today's #grandma recording probably was her pretty accurate verdict about my mother's favorite radio station ("sounds like children singing", "low intellectual"), which grandma had set as only station in her radio anyway, because they provide local news every 30 minutes. She also told me the surname of the father of an "illegitimate" child. Unfortunately it's a common name and she didn't know the first name anymore. #genealogy

In today's #grandma recording, she told me how many #cows she had at each place she lived during her life and how the water froze, when she was alone one winter, because she forgot to leave it running. For four weeks, she then needed to carry water inside for the six cows and two calves, because she didn't dare to leave them out. She was too worried, she might not get them back inside. This was the last pf 8 recording from March 2019. #genealogy

In this week's #grandma recording, I asked her about #praying at the table. She said, that her and her parents used to pray before and after the meal. They were still doing that during World War II, until some soldiers were quartered at them. Then it stopped and they never resumed. I had experiences with praying before eating at some friends, but I had never heard about praying after eating as well. Did you? #genealogy #prayer

Still in March 2019, #grandma talked about how her father Ludwig #Steurenthaler wikitree.com/wiki/Steurenthale learned to be a charcoal burner and later a sawyer in the sawmill of his brother. There used to be a former charcoal burning site (kiln) in the neighborhood, where her mother used to go and fill a sack of #flower soil, after removing the grass layer. She also talked about some relatives in a neighboring village, which I still didn't manage to figure out or connect. #genealogy
