Nevada Northern Railway, Ely, Nevada (4/26/2025). These old engines were used to haul copper ore from the Ruth Mine on the west side of Ely to smelters in McGill, northeast of Ely. The trains, railway, & machine shop are fully operational & appear to the visitor as frozen in time from the early 20th century. I stop there every time I pass through town. Visitors can ride trains & be the engineer, but I prefer to roam around the yard & machine shop.

There seems to be an #interrail sale on at most of the usual sites.

And here's my regular reminder that if you are in the UK and have a Disabled Person's Railcard then you can get an equivalent Interrail pass for your companion for free from the official UK seller. myinterrail.co.uk
Buy your own pass, then contact them by email for instructions. They are very helpful.

TIL that part of the historical Track 61 running along the South Boston Bypass is used as a test track by the #MBTA.

Never seen a train parked there before (not that I walk past it often), but tonight I got a peek at some of the new rolling stock presumably going through acceptance testing.

Today's historic photo of the day: The cars for train S38 the Canberra Monaro Express at left, and at right 4439 on the Up Southern Highlands Express at Canberra #railway station, Kingston, ACT, December 8 1985

The Southern Highlands Express departed Canberra Sunday evenings just half an hour after the Canberra Monaro Express. The locomotive and non-aircon carriage set had run down on Saturday evenings as an extension of the train that on every other day of the week ran only as far as Goulburn.
