Mahmoud Khalil hasn't been deported yet. I've been worried that they'll really really disappear him, without even pretending to go through due process, but they haven't. That's good news.
If Khalil, a green card holder, is deported without having been convicted of a crime, the profundity of my disinterest in whatever nonsense passes for a so-called legal argument in favor of that course of action will be deeper than the Mariana Trench with rising sea levels. I will also prefer not to risk hearing about the debate regarding whether or not he's a Hamas supporter, because I do not wish to dislocate my jaw through excessive yawning.
Simply put: in the event of the politically motivated deportation of a permanent resident who has not been convicted of a crime, it will be a matter of common sense that green card holders like me cannot risk remaining in this country, and would be better off leaving on our own terms, without the pleasure of a stay in ICE prison followed by a flight in chains to who knows where.
