ACK. Sending a complaint to the BBC… They've made a major error in their copy here:

Carney revealed it on Friday during his first speech as prime minister when he hearkened back - with a shiny polish - to the origins of this former colony. He hailed "the wonder of a country built on the bedrock of three peoples: indigenous, French and British".

See it?

That should say three peoples: “Indigenous, French and British".

Indigenous should ALWAYS be capitalized when referring to the people who have lived in this country for millennia before colonial powers came.

Mark Carney and Emmanuel Macron shake hands while smiling and looking at the camera in front of a Canadian flag during a press conference in Paris on Monday. They both wear a suit and tie.
www.bbc.comCanada's Carney makes statement by choosing Europe, not US, for first foreign tripThe prime minister hopes to achieve solid support as he visits the UK and France, writes Lyse Doucet.

The last sentence in prime minister Mark Carney’s remarks here are worth noting:

“It’s Canada strong; we can stand up for ourselves. We’ve called out those comments. They’re disrespectful, they’re not helpful, and they need to stop. They will have to stop before we sit down and have a conversation about our broader partnership with the United States.”

It is actually weird that Colonel Sanders hated what they'd done to his Kentucky Fried Chicken and moved to Canada so he could control rhe product, loved Canada, so he built Hospitals. AND ALSO, that A&W split in two, a growing good food version for Canada, and a cheap imitation that no one wants in the US.

I mean, fast food. Fast food.

Col. Sander's white suits and charities were Canadian.

Dear Governments of BC and Canada. We are in an economic moment. This is a time of huge upheaval and potentially generational change.

Education should never have a cost. It is education that staves off inequality and ignorance. It is education that underpins innovation, advancement, freedom, and democracy.

BC should partner with Canada and make all Post-Secondary Education Free.

There it is again, the 'be grateful' schtick. This time on WWII.

"“My advice to that unnamed low-level French politician would be to remind them that it’s only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now. So they should be very grateful to our great country,” she told reporters.”

This is getting EXTREMELY old and I can tell you right now WWII veterans in Canada, the UK, Commonwealth, France and all over the world and probably a whole bunch of US veterans as well, would turn their backs on these self-aggrandizing baffoons in the US Administration.

Global News · ‘Give us back the Statue of Liberty,’ French politician tells U.S.By Rachel Goodman

🇨🇦 Shout out to the Canadians who have been emailling the Royal Watch newsletter at the BBC about King Charles! 🇨🇦

"But there is no avoiding the tensions and contradictions in this balancing act. Emails from Canadians to the BBC's Royal Watch newsletter show that many want a much more robust defence from the King.

"What a cop out! Throw Canada to the wolves. Giving us back pats for our flag's anniversary doesn't quite cut it. Here sits a monarchist who is seriously rethinking his allegiance to the crown!" emailed Brian, a Canadian military veteran.

Carol in Vancouver was unhappy at the invitation from the UK for a second state visit by President Trump.
"I feel ashamed for the Brits feeling they have to follow through with inviting such a boor for dinner. For the life of me I do not understand why he has this power over you," she wrote.

"As a Canadian, the invitation is a slap in the face to the people of Canada. If the King is our King (as we are a Commonwealth country), and Trump is basically at war with us, how dare King Charles give him any credence?" emailed Patricia.

"As a Canadian I am saddened, appalled, disgusted and angry that King Charles appears to be joining the conga line of supplicants," said Jo-Ann in Ontario.

But King Charles will have to keep to the line set by ministers, and if that means maintaining good relations with Trump, he is unlikely to be saying anything more outspoken.”

Up to and including Lester B. Pearson (1963), the traditional first foreign stop for a new Canadian PM was the UK. After that, starting with Pierre Trudeau (1968), the U.S. became the usual first stop, but not always:

  • Brian Mulroney started with France (1984)
  • Paul Martin started with Mexico at the Summit of the Americas (2004)
  • Mark Carney started with France (2025)

I have been supportive of talk of Canada joining the EU, but I admit, I feel a little... conflicted.. about this quotable quote from PM Mark Carney today alongside President Macron.

What was your reaction to Carney saying we are "The most European of Non-European Countries”?

Uhh, no, thank you very much.

You might see _your neighbours rolling over to become slaves.

You might like drawing parallelograms around German racist thug history, but Canada is Vietnam not Austria.

Only Russia is bigger.
Russia's economy is smaller than 🇨🇦

Canada has loyal allies, Russia has North Korea.

Canada already beat one US invasion. Do not think politeness and decency masks weakness.
