Thanks to DataCite’s Global Access Fund 2024, the DataMap/Amazon initiative is transforming climate research by centralizing, curating & improving access to Amazonian atmospheric data from key projects. This initiative enhances data sharing, discoverability, and collaboration across Brazil & Latin America, supporting vital climate research through the use of DOIs.

Due to 🇺🇦 bureaucratic requirements, many are trying to calculate the 'amount of #FAIR data' in December. This is absurd, as FAIR represents principles, not 'units of data.' There is no standardized method to measure how much data complies with FAIR, and moreover, these principles are multifaceted - each aspect can have varying levels of implementation. In short, FAIR assessment requires a comprehensive analysis, not a simple count.

"The civil rights organization European Digital Rights (EDRi) is making serious accusations against the EU Commission regarding the agreement on data sharing with the USA. Eleven years after the Snowden revelations and the associated outcry, mass surveillance is simply continuing based on the EU-US data protection framework, the umbrella organization complains. The EU now appears to have adopted an attitude of "business as usual", which suggests at least a certain tolerance of the ongoing mass collection of information on internet users by certain countries, such as the USA."

Question regarding #dataReuse and #datasharing:

With my students, I scraped tweets on different topics relating to time frames up to October 2022. I am still making some of those data sets available for #teaching purposes and wonder if that's officially allowed, given the changes in Twitter/X's recent terms of use. I would appreciate some clarifications as I cannot find precise up-to-date information online. Most information I find still relates to the pre-Musk period and seems outdated.

TIL Dominique Roche (co-founder of @sortee amongst many other great achievements) is a Senior Policy Advisor at the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

I'm so pleased for him!

People who do metascience, and really think about scholarly communications can land some really great jobs outside of the typical grant-chasing academic treadmill.

Karthik Ram hired at the Navigation Fund too. Feels good 😎

McGill University organized a great workshop series on #de-identifying #researchData -- 2 events on quant, 2 events on qual, each with one foundational workshop and one tool-oriented one. I presented the foundational qual one (WS3), but all worth checking out. All slides and recordings (incl. French translation) available mcgill.ca/drs/training #dataSharing #dataLibs
