Elon Musk’s DOGE Quietly Kills Affordable Housing Program

#Trump is making a massive cut to affordable #housing, as fears over the #economy grow.
newrepublic.com/post/192653/mu

" #DOGE has cut funds & programs across the federal #government without regard to the purposes they serve or the lives that depend on them. Many of the people who depend on this #HUD program are low-income #seniors or destitute #families who have little or no other options."

The deadly 3,000kg car bloat trend

Australians are obsessed with SUVs and huge utes, but experts say they are making our roads deadlier

"Also in recent years, Australia has spectacularly failed at its mission of bringing down road deaths and serious injuries. Speed – and their proclivity to be driven faster – and overall height make larger vehicles far more likely to kill or cause serious injury when hitting pedestrians, cyclists, motorbikes and smaller cars."

"Newstead warns how this mentality can lead to an arms race to larger cars for those wanting to bolster their own safety. Crucially, if a driver can’t make eye contact with a pedestrians, “they are going to drive as though they aren’t there”"

>6 weeks into the 2nd #Trump admin, there is a chill spreading over political debate [#speech] in Washington & beyond.

People on both sides of the aisle who would normally be part of the public dialogue about the big issues of the day say they are intimidated by the prospect of online attacks from #Trump & #ElonMusk, concerned about harm to their companies & frightened for the #safety of their #families.

Providing children (and ourselves) with tools to manage anxiety is important. Our executive director Jen Fischer shares the books and tools that work for her family at Multicultural Kid Blogs. multiculturalkidblogs.com/2024

Many Americans still imagine #rural communities as bastions of #tradition, where #marriage is widespread & #families w/lots of children abound. 25yrs ago, that would have been largely correct. No longer.

Research shows over the past 3 decades, women ages 15–44, marriage rates have fallen much faster for rural #women than their urban counterparts [who already broke the habit😉]. 1988–2018, the proportion of rural women who were married fell from 55% to 33%.

#Trump recently issued new guidelines for the #Transportation Dept, surprisingly prioritizing spending & #infrastructure for “communities w/ #marriage & #birth rates higher than the national average.” In other words, communities w/large #traditional #families. We know what you’re probably thinking: That means #rural & small town America—presumably Trump’s core constituency—will disproportionately benefit from these funds.

But you could very well be wrong.
