"The shooting is the latest case in which a 'machine gun conversion device' was found, something law officers around the nation have expressed grave concerns about. The proliferation of these types of weapons is made possible by small pieces of metal or plastic made with a 3D printer or ordered online."

@luckytran oh wow 😳😱
"Buxtun is revered as a hero to public health scholars and ethicists for his role in bringing to light the most notorious medical research scandal in U.S. history. Documents that #Buxtun provided to The Associated Press, and its subsequent investigation and reporting, led to a public outcry that ended the study in 1972.

Forty years earlier, in 1932, federal scientists began studying 400 Black men in #Tuskegee, Alabama, who were infected with #syphilis. When antibiotics became available in the 1940s that could treat the disease, federal health officials ordered that the drugs be withheld. The study became an observation of how the disease ravaged the body over time."

in 1968, students at the Tuskegee Institute barricaded the doors of Dorothy Hall during an annual meeting of the Board of Trustees, demanding a number of reforms, typed up in a document called: “General Philosophy: A Black University Concept.”

Governor Lurleen Wallace sent around 300 National Guardsmen to Tuskegee Institute. Thankfully, bloodshed was avoided.

Last night, my 14yo and I watched #StarTrek #Voyager S5 E8 “Nothing Human,” which dealt with #MedicalEthics and experimentation on living subjects.

Today, I told him about the US’s #Tuskegee & #Guatemala Syphilis “studies.”

Why did the writers—who reference the ‘57 Chevy as Tom Paris’ favorite car—not mention these experiments in the episode?

#ST fans need to know that we have been the Cardassians, too.

That said, I wish #RobertPicardo was on Mastodon!
