On Balatro

The ShopTalk Discord #games channel has been pretty heavy on Balatro for like... a year? I was turned off by the game at first as I think I downloaded some unofficial port or something and it was unplayably janky. But now Balatro+ is on Apple Arcade, which I have anyway, and I've got a perfectly nice copy of the game to play.

We've been down this road many times - for many years - and are so pleased that, despite folks who thought it was not possible, games continue to become more #diverse and their communities continue to grow in size and scope.

Played some «Bundesliga Manager Professional» this month – a game I loved when I grew up. It still looks charming to me (in a kind of German way), although the gameplay is not as captivating as I had it in mind. Every turn I would only make minor adjustments and wait for money to upgrade my stadium. After a few games it became quite dull. Maybe it was this kind of simplicity I enjoyed back then. 💁‍♂️ Still, our 2:0 home victory against Borussia Dortmund remains unforgotten. 💪 #games #33YearsAgo

Was at a work dinner, and this man asked me what my hobbies were. I said (among other things) that I'm a PC gamer, and he asked "how do you define gaming?".

I was a bit thrown by this, and now I find myself wondering, are there some rules about which games you must play to be allowed to call yourself a gamer that I don't know about? And if so, which games qualify, and what do you call people that play other games on their PC? What is a gamer?
