Since #AshWednesday Christians are beginning #Lent until #Easter. #Abstinence in order to practice #mindfulness and experience #freedom. Our #Muslim neighbors have been celebrating their #fasting month, #Ramadan, since last week. #Fasting plays an important role in all religions. Fasting is also important for non-religious people. A good opportunity to talk to each other about our fasting experiences! All the best!

#Easter is April 20th.

When egg prices were over $7 a dozen last year, I put out a post suggesting that eggs be #boycotted from all source suppliers. No one listened.

Prices did go down, but they haven't stayed down. In fact, in most markets, the prices are over $6 & climbing.

Bird flu? Frankly, I blame greedy suppliers & corporate stores for price gouging

This year, instead of flooding kids with crap they don't need, keep it simple & limit your Easter spending to the bare minimum

Continued thread

Maybe we aim to treat #Easter as a season of rewarding local businesses or maybe those often unsung heroes that provide us #FOSS or media that we enjoy? (Maybe even the local church?) Fifty days of spending money that way and not on big corporations? (Perhaps using money we’ve put aside during Lent?)

Another #boycott thought: in classical #Christian practice, Wednesdays and Fridays are days for #fasting. The fasting discipline of those days is extended for the 40 days of #Lent (excluding Sundays). So maybe, for Lent, we could observe a practice like today’s on every Wednesday and Friday for the season of Lent?

One thing to also consider is that #Easter is meant to be 50 days of feasting as a sort of counter-balance to Lent. So we’d need to figure out what that would look like.
