And now we're back to the expensive but actually suitable-for-socks yarn, this time in a nice variegated light grey mix (the slightly green tones you can see are a camera artefact; the yarn's actually very calmly monochrome). This time I've made them a bit narrower, and I think that's going to work very well.

There is someone else I'd like to knit a pair for. Unfortunately, he has the sort of wife who'd be inclined to object to extramarital socks.

The start of a pair of light grey socks. The yarn is variegated, which shows as subtle striping on the toe box area (stocking stitch) and a more mixed effect on the cables above. Once again, these socks are being knitted both at once on a circular needle, but this time the circular cable is quite a bit longer than it was for the first pair (and a large loop of it is therefore visible), because this makes it much easier to pull the sides of the socks together without leaving a gap.

Finished my first pair of socks!

Now, I didn't have the wrapper with the yarn that told me the length anymore, long gone, so I was eyeballing how much to use. I didn't make the left sock's leg portion very long at all.

But it was too long to make an actual matching pair with what was left over, I had enough to do the foot and heel and cuff but basically no leg portion. I'm not that bothered as these were for me and a way of learning socks.

My roommates want socks now, and though I want to eventually try making my own socks without a pattern this year, I would appreciate the experience knitting different sizes from a pattern. So. I'm knitting them socks from the same pattern. But I have enough yarn for their socks to make them match. :3

This is where we currently are with the socks; as you see, I'm now on the home straight. I do still have the contrast yarn left for the tops, so hopefully they're not going to be too ridiculously short, but 50 g of main yarn per sock is not a great deal when it's fairly dense yarn and you have cables.

Those variegated yellow socks again, but now they have fully turned heels. One of the socks is showing the cable design, while the other one gives a good view of the heel. The yarn is also shown, and there is not a lot of it left.

I have had a bunch of the same pairs of boot socks for a couple years. Was spending time with family today and had removed my boots at the door ( #midwest ), and someone pointed out that both my socks had a letter R on them. Apparently these socks have left and right feet indicators! And I was wearing two Rs because I literally never noticed 🤣

Continuing some socks I wanted to make because a Knit Picks sale on Felici handed me a "Gotta get it" colorway.

This is Elementary Watson pattern by Sherry Menton using Knit Picks Felici fingering weight yarn in color "Silent Film". There should be enough for me to get mid-calf socks out of it.

This was me "turning" (knitting the short row trapezoidal flap between the gussets and reducing stitches on the back needle for) the fleegle heel. Next up is the first cuff repeat.

Two skeins of fingering weight greyscale yarn (Knit Picks Felici in color "Silent Film") leading into two socks being worked toe-up on dual Chiaogoo Red Lace Needles. The yarn self-stripes into black, dark grey, grey, and light grey stripes coming from the tips. This photo highlights the fleegle heel in both socks: a trapezoidal flap knitted using short rows between the two gussets, this forming a wide pocket for the heel of a foot.

@evacide I’m not sure how many clothes I buy. Recently bought a few long sleeve items because I’ve been cold.
